Ventilation in the context of reconstruction
The complete renovation of the historic old slaughterhouse in Petrinja has transformed a dilapidated industrial monument into a modern youth centre. This project is a showcase example of modern commercial building ventilation with an emphasis on heritage preservation and energy efficiency.
PROJECT STORY
Laura Youth Centre
In the very heart of Petrinja, the unused building of the old slaughterhouse stood for decades. Built at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, it represented important but dilapidated industrial heritage, whose original purpose required specific—and today outdated—forms of industrial ventilation. After the devastating earthquake, the idea arose to completely renovate and transform it into a modern social and cultural youth centre.
CLIENT REQUIREMENTS
The challenge
Perfectly combining history with modern requirements The main challenge was to reconcile the historical value of the building with the demands of a modern, multi-purpose and energy-efficient facility. It was necessary to create a space that would meet the strictest contemporary standards for indoor environment quality. Considering the purpose of the building—as a venue for gatherings, workshops and concerts—special emphasis was placed on air quality and thermal comfort, which required an advanced commercial ventilation system.
SOLUTION
A complete ventilation system with heat recovery
ATREA technology for a healthy and economical environment To ensure optimal indoor climate conditions, a complete heat-recovery ventilation system from ATREA was selected. The heart of the entire solution is a modern ventilation unit equipped with a high-efficiency heat-recovery system. This technology provides continuous air exchange, removes harmful substances, and supplies fresh, filtered air with minimal energy loss. The installation is designed to respect the building’s historical character and preserve its unique atmosphere.
